Mesakhuti Mai-Mine – An Eritrean Novel

This is a novel set in Mai-Mine, a village in southwestern Eritrea during the war years in the late 1980’s. Written in the Eritrean language of Tigrinya, it is a story of a peasant farmer who is forced to join the Ethiopian army as a member of the “Wheat Militia” so his family could survive the famine of those years. Passionately told from the point of view of a simple peasant, Mesakhuti Mai-Min has all the ingredients of a war novel: heroism, betrayal, love, suffering, death and the struggle between good and evil
