The book teaches Arabic according to a modern, efficient method: It’s not learning the structure and grammar and some useless words by heart. It’s talking, talking, talking, and acquiring the language like a baby (= by listening) rather than a student. Grammar and other ‘enemies’ are taught in passing rather. I can only recommend every language teacher to use this text book for the class. Unfortunately, not all grammar structures are self-explicatory in the book, therefore a knowlegable teacher is needed.
Volume 2 is about one inch thick and is organized in chapters that go through the basics of Arabic. After the end of volume 2 (and around 1 year of intensive learning), one can get along pretty well, at least with a dictionary. For advanced students, there is the follow-up book and a grammar book.
